St. John's Church Foundation

Since 1938, St. John's Church Foundation has been the steward of Historic St. John's Church in Richmond Va. St. John's is not only the first church built in Richmond in 1741, but was also the site of Patrick Henry's famous "Give me Liberty or Give me Death!" speech in 1775 to his fellow delegates of the Virginia Assembly who met in the Richmond church. Our mission is two fold: preservation and education.

We have used Conquest Graphics for several years for all of our printing needs. We use Conquest to print the tri-fold, full-color programs for our Liberty or Death Reenactments, our signature history program for the past 50 years. We also print our rack cards at Conquest; these go all around the state to interstate rest areas, other historic sites, hotels, and airports. Lastly, we started making our own postcards using images from our graveyard and historic site and they are the best selling in our shop. The ordering process is fairly simple, and the customer service agents are extremely helpful. We like that there is a local warehouse because we can pick up our items and save money on shipping. As a non-profit, we truly appreciate the low cost for printing such high quality items.

The mission of our non-profit foundation is to spark a global appreciation for understanding the role that Patrick Henry’s “Liberty or Death” speech had in setting America on its path to liberty for all, and to ignite the public’s commitment for preserving the historic site where it happened. The printed products help us spread our message to visitors, and donors, on whom we depend for much of our funding.

We rely on support from our ~30,000 annual visitors, individual donations, and grants from individuals, foundations, and corporations to ensure the preservation of this National Historic Landmark. Conquest Graphics is, in this way, OUR PARTNER in spreading our message and sharing our history with the public. St. John’s Church Foundation receives no federal, state, local, or church funding for our mission, nor are we involved in nor do we provide funding for the religious activities of the church. All of our support is from generous donors and companies that provide non-profit discounts on such expensive things as printing. Our printed material gets the word out around Richmond and gives our visitors something to take home with them.

“After I attended a Historic St. John’s Church reenactment of Patrick Henry’s Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death speech, I was very impressed with the whole immersive experience. My son was enthralled as history came to life before his eyes, and I was amazed at the quality of the entire production. When I learned that the facility receives no government funding and relies on private donations, I knew that I needed to be a part of its legacy.” — Jayda Justus, Richmond

“I started giving because of a love for history, but have continued to support St. John’s because of the genuine appreciation that I receive from the organization. From personalized emails to invitations to historical talks, I can tell that the funds are really appreciated! I also value everything St. John’s does for Richmond and Church Hill in particular.” — Liz Keenan, Richmond

“Neither liberty nor historic preservation can be taken for granted. The work of the foundation to preserve property and tradition is so very important, and we make it a priority to lend our support.” — Gail and Everett Harwood, Glen Allen

Thank you, Conquest Graphics, for being a part of our mission to preserve and protect this National Historic Landmark, and to educate the public about the history that happened here.
