Mt. Hope Bible Camp operates under the Ohio Bible Conference, Inc., our official 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission is to evangelize and disciple individuals in a relationship with Jesus Christ through retreats, camps, one-day events, and small group settings. To effectively reach our audience, we rely on print and direct mail as key tools for marketing and communication.
One of our most effective strategies has been the use of postcards with QR codes, allowing participants to easily sign up online. This method has proven efficient in engaging a younger generation while also ensuring we communicate effectively with parents and grandparents who appreciate mailed information and reminders. We understand that while digital communication is growing, print materials remain a vital tool for keeping our entire community informed and engaged.
For the past few years, we partnered with Conquest Graphics to print student workbooks as companion guides for our teaching sessions. These booklets keep campers engaged in the Gospel message and serve as valuable take-home resources, reinforcing what they’ve learned at camp. Many campers keep these booklets long after camp ends, using them for personal Bible study or as a reminder of the spiritual truths they encountered during their time with us.
Beyond camper outreach, we use print and direct mail to stay connected with donors and supporting churches. Through newsletters and letters, we share ministry updates and highlight opportunities to get involved. One example is our "Give Hope" online fundraising campaign in early May, where we send letters to churches explaining how they can participate. Additionally, we send thank-you letters to donors, expressing our appreciation for their generosity and demonstrating the impact their support has on the lives of campers.
Looking ahead, we plan to expand our use of print and direct mail in creative ways to better engage our Mt. Hope community. One initiative under consideration is adding signage—such as vinyl banners—around the camp to assist parents and campers during registration, open houses, and events. Improved signage will enhance communication and streamline our operations. Clear, visible signs can direct guests to check-in locations, dining areas, and activity spaces, making their experience more enjoyable and organized.
Additionally, as we did last year, we will continue with an Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) campaign to promote our summer camps. This year, we plan to target six local mail routes—Otway, Rarden, Lucasville, McDermott, West Portsmouth, and Peebles—to connect with new campers and families. Expanding our reach through direct mail allows us to invite more children to experience the life-changing impact of camp.
On a more personal level, my wife and I, as camp missionaries, frequently distribute business cards and prayer cards to encourage prayer support and provide our contact information. This remains an essential part of how we stay connected with those who support our ministry. We have found that something as simple as a well-designed prayer card can serve as a powerful reminder for people to pray for the camp, our staff, and the campers whose lives are being transformed.
As a nonprofit organization with a limited budget, we recognize the importance of creative and cost-effective outreach. Print and direct mail play a crucial role in keeping our older supporters engaged, inviting volunteers, promoting events, and encouraging financial support. Without these tools, many people—especially those who do not engage as much online—would miss out on opportunities to be involved in what God is doing at Mt. Hope Bible Camp.
The print grant we received this year—and hope to receive in the future—enables us to continue reaching people with the Gospel. These resources allow us to share Christ’s love more effectively and ensure that our ministry remains strong for years to come.
